The elected Session (Ruling Elders) at North Branch is composed of members of the congregation and is organized by “classes" or terms of service. Each class is a three year term and the classes are arranged so that in any given year 1/3 of the Session gets replaced by a new class.
The Session is responsible, with the Pastor (Teaching Elder), for the day-to-day operation of the church, its facilities, finances and spiritual well-being. The authority for the Session is derived from the denomination’s constitution (PCUSA) which is contained in two books which are called the Book of Confessions (BOC) and the Book of Order (BOO).
The following Session committees currently exist:
Finance Committee – They have responsibility for managing financial accounts, Personnel records, auditing, Stewardship and capital campaigns as well as other duties as may be agreed upon by the Session.
Growth, Evangelism and Outreach Committee (GEO) – GEO is an “outward focused team” responsible for Mission activities, advertising, community-facing functions, outreach, growth initiatives and other such duties as may be agreed upon by the Session.
Small Group Committee (SGC) – SGC is responsible for most “inward focused” activities to include: Music ministry, Worship, Small Groups, church gatherings/meals and other such duties as may be agreed upon by the Session.
Facilities Committee – Facilities is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the church facilities. This includes the buildings, electrical systems, plumbing, gas, lawn care, parking lots and snow removal.
At various times several committees will share (or coordinate responsibility for) a specific North Branch initiative. The various committees are loosely organized and are encourage to be autonomous to the extent that they assume responsibility for activities generally associated with their specific area of focus.
ALL COMMITTEES ARE ENCOURAGED TO SEEK HELP/PARTICIPATION FROM GENERAL CONGREGATION
